This six week course will take your handbuilding skills to the next level! This class is perfect for both newer potters who want to explore whats next after pinch pots, and more experienced hand builders looking to extend their skills.
Over the 6 weeks you will delve into the magical world of porcelain, sculpture and nerikomi. Learn the ancient Japanese technique of nerikomi to create your own multicoloured vessels by staining and stacking coloured clay blocks and strips before cutting slices to reveal and create delicate patterns. You will also explore the properties of porcelain clay and different sculptural strategies such as working with slabs, constructing sturdy armatures, press-moulding and using shellac relief to create intricate surface details. At the end of the course you will have your very own glazed pieces to take home and treasure.
We recommend you have done at least one handbuilding workshop or course prior, to ensure you can make the most of the content.
Each class will have a maximum of 10 students. We can't wait to welcome you to the studio!
**Accessibility Note: This class is held in our upstairs studio which is only accessible by two flights of stairs.
