3 hour session
Level: Beginners & Intermediate
Age: 18+
Date: Wednesday 1st October 6:00-9:00pm
Tutor: Valentina Palonen
Learn the ancient Japanese technique of nerikomi to create your own multicoloured vessels and sculptures! This beautiful technique involves stacking coloured clay blocks and strips before cutting slices to reveal and create delicate patterns.
In this introductory session we want you to spend as much time making your own work, so clay will be pre-prepared with stains for you to use in the session. Your expert tutor Valentina will do a demonstration on how to safely mix stains into clay at home, and then you will have the rest of the session with create and build you own amazing nerokomi pieces.
And at the end of the workshop your work will be dried, glazed and fired by NPS. All glaze materials, tools, and firing is included - no hidden costs.
Please note that as nerikomi work needs to be dried extremely slowly, we will need to dry your work for approx 3-4 weeks before the first bisque firing. This will mean that it will take approximately 5-6 weeks before your work is ready to take home.
*Workshops are for adults aged 18+ only. Teenagers aged 11+ may attend if they are booked in with a participating adult. Participants who do not the minimum age requirements will not be permitted to take part in the class and no refunds are available on the day.
