Clayworks RGH is a red-brown stoneware clay body - our LGH body with a small addition of iron oxide, which is what gives it its warm, earthy red-brown fired colour. It is a popular choice with Australian potters for both hand-building and wheel-thrown work, functional and decorative.
At 60 mesh it is smooth enough for tableware and throwing but has enough tooth to hold a hand-built form. Bisque at Orton cones 06–07 and glaze at cones 8–9. Shrinkage is 12% wet to fired, so allow for it when sizing lids, bases and sets.
Glazes behave differently over a red body than a white one - clear and translucent glazes deepen the colour, while pale and opaque glazes will shift. Worth a test tile before a full load.
