Clayworks YG Speckle is a filter-pressed midfire clay body that fires to a warm yellow with a distinct speckle running through it - one of the more characterful clays we stock, and a favourite for potters who want colour and texture from the body rather than from the glaze.
Filter pressing gives it a consistent, well-de-aired working texture, so it centres cleanly on the wheel and holds up for hand-building. It matures at Orton Cone 6 and 7, which puts it squarely in the midfire range alongside our other midfire clays.
The yellow speckle reads beautifully under clear and translucent glazes and gives functional ware — mugs, bowls, planters, serving pieces - a warmth that a white body cannot. It also suits decorative work where you want the surface to carry visual interest on its own.
