    Course Description

IMPORTANT: This course is for those with previous wheel throwing experience. If you have any questions as to whether this course is suitable for you please call us on 9387 3911.

In this new four week course learn how to throw a range of flatware on the pottery wheel, whilst developing your wheel throwing skills. Learn the skills and techniques to throw a range of dishes and plate forms - including wedging, centering clay, opening up, compressing and flattening bases and creating sides/flanges. Gain experience working with batts on the wheel (round wooden boards used to remove thrown forms from the wheel head without having to pick them up and distort them). Learn about drying issues when creating flatware, and how to effectively turn/trim flatware to make it the 'right' weight and create footrings. A range of stoneware glazes will be used to finish the work. At the completion of the course you will have your own glazed flatware to take home and use.

The cost of this course includes one bag of clay (buff stoneware), use of wheel and tools, firing, and materials for decorating and glazing. Our pottery supply shop stocks a wide variety of products you may wish to explore further and is open during business hours. This course will have a maximum of 10 students.
