In this workshop you will you will learn the technique of marbling on the pottery wheel.
Marbling is a technique in which two or more differently coloured clays are partially blended together and can be used to create striking surface decoration, reminiscent of natural geological formations.
In Marbling on the Wheel you will be learn about clay compatibility in terms of drying and firing, how to effectively wedge two differently coloured clays together in preparation for the wheel and the best throwing techniques to maximise the marbled surface. You will also learn how to colour clay with stains to create new blends of coloured clay from which to marble with.
This workshop will focus on simple forms, such as bowls, cylindrical forms and ovoids. If you have basic throwing skills and would like to explore a new technique on the wheel, this could be for you.
This workshop includes the glazing (clear glaze) and firing of work created. Please note, the turnaround time for firing is generally 7-10 working days. This is a hands-on workshop, please wear suitable clothing and bring your own towel.
